Performance 'Hell, Purgatory, Paradise'

This project was realized in 1999. In itself it contains the idea of a multimedia account of trichotomy as a universal principle found in religion (e.g. The Holy Trinity), natural sciences (e.g. the physical condition of matter), social sciences (e.g. the past, the present, the future), life cycle (e.g. birth, life, death), etc.

The explicit presence of the trichotomous principle in the writings of Dante Alighieri served as the backbone for this project, primarily when making sculptures, the set design but also during the art performance and the audio recording.

In the exhibition area of the set three separate tunnels were erected and an installation was placed therein.
Three actors presented their roles and each lured audience members to enter his particular tunnel. A soundtrack with quotations from Dante Alighieri's writings was playing in the background.

The installation enabled the audience, with the help of its symbolism and artistic means, to physically go through all three levels, to change locations, pass from one level to the other and get a first-hand feeling of a completely new experience.
What we have noticed during the performance is that everybody, without exception, wanted to experience all three levels, i.e. hell, purgatory and paradise. A high level of actor-audience interaction was attained.
